4/11.- Vieux Lyon, restaurants
Eating in one of the
restaurants in Lyon is a reason enough to come to this French
city. Thanks to the quality of the local ingredients, nowhere
tastes the world famous Lyonnais cuisine better than here.
Lyon, with its more than 1000 restaurants, has a culinary
offer as rich and varied as the most demanding gourmet can dream
of. From Paul Bocuse to the humble "bouchons" (the
little bistros or small restaurants serving traditional Lyon
cuisine), everywhere you
will enjoy the local pastime: eating out.
The authentic bouchon offer local, family cooking in the
popular style, using cheap ingredients (offal, seasonal
vegetables...); host is often surly (though
warm-hearted) and the customers tend to be elbow to elbow at
table; and there must be wine served in a (46 cl) glass pot, the
quintessential Lyon container.
The first evening in Lyon our WinSoft
hosts took us to Vieux Lyon, to a
bouchon Potatoes (8 bis place Saint Jean), just by the Saint Jean Church. We
had a chance to taste some of the
Lyon specialities.

Lyon's inhabitants are so fond of good
food that the saying goes in the Presqu'ile Peninsula, "that to
seduce a woman, it is wiser to take her to the restaurant than
to take her dancing ot to a movie"... => next
