6/11.- Rue de la Republique, Rue Victor Hugo
Rue de la Republique is the city's main pedestrian avenue. It
runs from Place Bellecour to Place de la Comedie --where the
Opera of Lyon sits. The street has several restaurants and cafes
with terraces (Buki and me had pizza at
"Pizza del Arte"). It is the perfect place to stroll and witness
Lyon's friendliest face. Several street artists perform here on
a daily basis.
In this third photo you can see one of the big pedestrian streets
in the city center. This street is called Victor Hugo and goes
from Bellecour Square to Carnot Square. Several cinemas,
restaurants and cafes draw visitors and locals every day. On
weekends the street is fuller than ever.
As in many other cities in France, you find people of all
races and colors in the city's main avenues and streets. This is
a legacy of France's colonial periods. Algerians, black Africans
and Vietnamese came to the metropolis to find a brighter future.
